TxHIMA HIA/HIT Scholarship

A TxHIMA scholarship will be awarded to one HIA student and one HIT student, beginning their last year (in summer or fall) in one of the following:

  • CAHIIM accredited HIA program in Texas
  • CAHIIM accredited HIT program in Texas

Nominations are solicited from the Program Directors of each Texas school and voted on by the TxHIMA Board of Directors in May. Scholarship awards will be announced and presented to winners at the Annual Convention in June. Winners not able to attend the Annual Convention will receive awards via US mail, no later than 30 days post-convention, prior to Fall Semester.

 

Information and Instructions

Eligibility:

  1. Students who will begin their last year in an HIA or HIT program in Texas in summer or fall of year application is due.

Criteria:

  1. Student must be an active student member of AHIMA.
  2. TxHIMA membership (AHIMA member designating Texas as your Component State Association) with AHIMA ID#
  3. Student must be a resident of the state of Texas (minimum of one year).
  4. Student must be a citizen of the U.S. or hold permanent resident status in the U.S.
  5. Student must have a major of Health Information Administration or Technology and a minimum GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) in that major and a minimum cumulative
  6. GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

 

Instructions:

  1. Complete the application.
  2. Eligibility to apply for this scholarship must be verified by obtaining the signature of the Program Director.
  3. Obtain a college transcript.
  4. Ask two (2) people to submit letters of recommendation.
  5. Write an essay of 350-500 words on how you will use the scholarship money and why you feel you deserve it. Discuss what personal attributes, training, experience or goals that will make you an asset to the health information management profession.
  6. At the bottom of the essay, in your own handwriting, acknowledge the following statement: "This essay is my work and has not been written, composed, or edited for me by anyone."
  7. Current wallet-size photo for use in TxHIMA publications. The photo will not be shared with the Board of Directors until after the recipients have been selected.

 

All applications will be submitted online via online application form. The TxHIMA Board will make the final decision for awarding the scholarships. Award of the TxHIMA Scholarships will be made at the TxHIMA Annual Meeting and Convention in June. Winners not able to attend the Annual Convention will receive awards via US mail, no later than 30 days post-convention, prior to Fall Semester.

Application Period: Applications accepted starting in February of each year and will be posted to the TxHIMA website and emailed to AHIMA / TxHIMA Members.

Application Deadline: All nominations must be submitted by Friday, April 26, 2024 in order to be considered for the current year's award. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.
