Updated April 9, 2020 Sharing Resources: AHIMA Disaster Planning and Recovery Toolkit
As many healthcare organizations and communities struggle to plan for COVID-19 surges and refresh their business continuity plans (disaster planning), AHIMA is making its updated Disaster Planning and Recovery Toolkit available to all.
The toolkit addresses these requirements with emphasis on capture of documentation of patient care rendered during a disaster, proper communication, relaying of diagnostics, treatments, and care planning among caregivers and patients, data backup plan availability as well as the integrity of healthcare information. (It is important to note that this toolkit was updated prior to the HHS Notification of Enforcement Discretion that includes relaxed HIPAA language.)
State hospital associations, state health departments, county health departments, and other local authorities can benefit from this information, and the HIM voice is needed in the work of these agencies as they form responses to the crisis. Please reach out to any of these types of contacts you have to share this toolkit and any of AHIMA’s COVID-19 guidance.
