The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) (http://www.twc.state.tx.us/news/disaster_response.html) has created two toll-free hot lines, one to assist displaced Louisiana workers filing Disaster Unemployment Assistance claims and another to serve as a central number for employers who wish to hire people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

  • Louisiana workers who have lost their jobs due to Hurricane Katrina may apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance. Call 1-800-818-7811. Claims takers will take calls from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Employers offering jobs to victims of Hurricane Katrina can call 1-800-695-6879. Phones will be staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm., Monday through Friday.

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) has also made the use of its Job Bank free until October 31, 2005. AHIMA encourages HIM professionals to use the online Job Bank (https://www.ahimanet.org/JobBank/login.cfm) to post resumes or open positions.
